FEB rHEB3 ASSOCIATION. Chkistohubch, May 7. At the Supromc Court criminal sittings, true bills were found in all cases except those against Frank William Schutz, indecent assault (two charges), and John Crosbie, theft! Joseph Brown was sentenced to six
month's imprisonment on a charge of stabbing Walter Rae on Mav 3rd. William James, who pleaded guilty to breaking and entering a dwelling house by night was sent to gaol for two years. Stephen Sargent received three months for theft from the person, of a purse containing £7 10s. Matthew Finlay Paterson, who was charged, that on Deoember 6th at the General Election in the electoral district of Ashburton, having voted once he did apply again for a voting paper in his own name. Accused affirmed that he was drunk at Ashburton and did not vote, but voted later on at Tinwald. The evidence for the Crown was to the effect thst accused had voted at both places. The jury returned a yerdict of guilty, with the addition that they did not think accused acted with any criminal intent. His Honor said ho could not accept that verdict. If there was no criminal intent accused could not be found guilty. The jury then returnod a verdict of guilty with a strong recommendation to mercy, and accused was sentenced to ono month's imprisonment. Gisiiobne, May 7. At the Supreme Court Victor Anderson was admitted lo probation on a charge of forgery, His Honor saying he believod prisoner's action was the result of thoughtlessness. James Rhodes was sentenced to six months for committing porjury in tho police court. Te Kare Akapu was found guilty of carnally knowing a Maori girl at To Aroa. Sentence was deferred. Truo bills wore found in soveral charges uuder the Bankruptcy Act.
Wellington, May 7. At the Supreme Court, James Dcvenport, who had pleaded guilty to breaking and entering at l'almorston North, was sentenced to nine month's imprisonment. George Leo, alias Jones, alias Wilson, alias Baxter, and George ltobcrtson, alias William Ireland, wcr found guilty of breaking and entering and theft respectively, and remandedfor sentence. Reeve was acquitted of a charge of horse stealing, ;TUo Jury threw out the oharge qf indecency preferred against Jas. HarrelJ. In the oaso of Thos. Goodgor, tho charge of murder was rcduecd to one of manslaughter.
