THE EXPATRIATION PROPOSALS. London, May 4, The Westminster Gazette denies that tho Government is pledged to throw open the door to repatriation. It adds: " The proclamation is in the nature of an emergency exit to be used if circumstances justify." v The Mail's Johannesburg correspondent says the Commission is just concluding its labours. It recommends the deportation of bad Chinese. If the gamblers and opium smokers are deported the others will settle down.

The "Transvaal Leader" says the Government abandoned the cruelty and slavery charge's, but has gone out of its way to injure and insult us, in order to leave a semblance of truth in its political campaign. The "Johannesburg Star" declares the Imperial Government is deliberately p'.cdging British taxpayers' money for an object which flisy admit is unnecessary, thereby increasing tho risk of throwing thousands of whites idle.
