The Hon. J, Carroll, Native Miuistcr, ivlio contracted blood-poisoning during his recent tour in the Urewera Country, is still confined to his bedroom in Wellington, but may be able to get about again next week. Dr. Bryden Glcndining, an old Napier High School boy, and son of Mrs Glendining, of Waihua (Wairoa), lias been appointed physician to Princess Una, the future Queen of Spain. Mr Arthur Adams, the well-known yew Zealand writer, has been tip. poiutcd to a position on the literary staff of the Sydnej Bulletin. Captain Kobertson, of the Eotoiti, is relieving Captaiu Geo. Holford 011 the Takapumi. The hitter goes 011 holiday leave.

Mr J. W. Deem, Stock Inspector at llawera, who bus recently been suffering from a bad attack of sciatica, has left for Rotorua to undergo treatment there.

Miss M. Hagcnsou, from the D.iuuerirke North School, has been appointed to the position of assistant mistress at the Elzroy Schoql, Miss Hagenson has a D qualification, and her classes have always obtained very successful results at the various exhibitions of school work in the Hawkc's Bay district. Miss Ina Dempscy's name was next in the running.

The Central School Committee recommended to the Education Board to appoint Mr it. L. Mcllroy, M.A., as first assistant at the school, aud this appointment has been made accordingly. Mr A. J. Harding's name was placed nest in onjer. Mr Mcllroy holds very high credentials. His teaching qualification is 82, and he lias been for the past 4A years first ' assistant at St. John's College, Auckland, where he formerly held the position of second assistant. For 'L£ years prior to that he filled the position of second assistant at the Waitaki High School, and hid then completed a fairly extensive career as a primary tene-lier. In liis examinations he took honours in Latin mid English. He is reported to be an enthusiast in boys' games, and in all matters of ordinary school work,
