RACING DISQUALIFICATIONS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sis,—ln your report of the meeting of the Metropolitan Club, held on the 27th inst., which sat to hear the evidence forwarded by the Stratford Eacing Club in regard to the alleged misconduct which took place at their last meeting, I notice that the cases were dismissed. Why ? For tho want of knowledge of the racing rules, which evidently the Stratford stewards are deficient in. Who, may I ask, is to pay the expenses of witnesses, etc.? Is it fair that those charged should be put to all this expense through the ignorance of those stewards ? I will go a step further, and say that the Stratford stewards were told at the inquiry they held in Stratford that they were in the wrong. It seems to me that stewards of clubs, or perhaps I should Bay their chairman, should be approved by the governing body, or, rather, go through an examination as to their or his competency to hold office. Eac ing, you will admit, bir, wants to be ruD on the best possible lines to keep it as it should be: a recreation and sport of the people, a day's outing for one's mother, wife, sister, or sweetheart, and one in which the officials are looked up to and trusted. Everyone knows that those clubs who have totalisator permits should be grateful, careful, up-to-date, and courteous, because there are plenty of clubs that cannot get a permit owing to the existing law. Thanking you for inserting this, I am, etc., D. J. Hughes.
