RAILWAY TIMBER RATES.

PEP PBESS ASSOCIATION. Wellington, April 26. A deputation, representing Hawke's Bay sawmillers and Wellington tim. bor merchants, waited on the ActingMinister for Railways," the Hon. A. Pitt to-day, to ask for extension of privileges granted in other parts of the colony in connection with preferential rates charged for carriage of timbor to stations on the Wellington-Napier-Ncw Plymouth section. The Premier was present. It was pointed out that all the groat timbor producing centres outside the Wellington-Napier-New Plymouth section had timber carried at very substantial reductions on classified rates. Any reductions which were made, the public would get the benefit. The Minister promised to give his reply in a week.
