STRATFORD NEWS.
The election of the School Committee took place on Monday evening, about 60 householders being present. Tlio chairman's report was read, and the balance-sheet showed a credit of £26. The election resulted in the return of Bevs. Watson and Thompson, Mrs Mackay and Monkhouse, an Messrs Bole, A, W. lleid, Bean, Curtis, J. D. Morison. Mr 0. J). Sole was reeled cd chairman, and Mr T. H. Penn secretary and treasurer. Last Saturday was the usual monthly pay day of the d;;iry factories. The amounts paid by the different factories for the month wore: Stratford .£lllO, Cardiff £1233, Ngairc £1209, Lowgarth £712, Huiakawa £750. I have to report the sudden death of a son of Mr Bo.vlers, of this tosvn. The little chap left here on Thursday last (to visit an elder brother in Hastings), and on Monday last the father received word that the boy had died on tko Sunday. Deep sympathy is felt for Mr Bowler and family in tlioir suddon bereavement.
Mr Senior, of London, Secretary of the Trust and Agency Company, Ltd,, who with Mrs Senior is touring New Zealand, visited Stratford on Saturday last. , . Mr and Mrs H. Burmester have returned from a holiday visit to the South Island. I regret to report that Mr Fred Brooking has had a relapse, and has been removed to the New Plymouth Hospital. The llev. C. A. B. Watson, who accepted the call to ltoslyn (Otago), lias since withdrawn his acceptance. Miss Bacon, of Whaugamomona, who was seriously injured by being thrown from her horse, is progressing favorably. Sheep worrying is very serious in this district at present. Last week one of our local butchers had nine, killed by dogs ; while on Sunday last a settler reports three killed. It is to be hoped thac the owners of dogs will be found out.
The Presbyterian Church Exhibition of Flowers and Fancy Work, etc., was opened by His Worship the Mayor on Wednesday, in the presence of a good crowd of visitors. Mr and, Mrs T. Hinc returned from a visit to Auckland and province today.
At the Police Court on Wednesday, Arthur James Thomas, alias James Vear, and William J. Horn, pleaded guilty to breaking and entering at Inglewood ou 3rd inst., ami were remanded' to the Supreme Court for sentence.
