SCHOOLBOYS' FARMING.

"If the boys -ate to be set to the work of wheeling manure for a distance of a mile or so, there is going to be strong opposition, open or covert, to the agricultural dass'es," said Mr H. Trimble, a member of the Education Board, on Wednesday. He informed his colleagues that at the .Norfolk road School the boys were expected to do this, and the classes were already unpopular. Ir, was unfair to ask boys to push a wheelbarrow over that distance. Could not some arrangements be made to pay for such work ? The Chief Inspector, Mr W. E. Spencer, said there was no need for the boys to be thus engaged. The school was entitled to a grant for seeds, manure, and odds and ends in connection with the classes, besides which the Board found the implements. Mrs Dougherty said that at Toko the farmers donated the seeds, manure, potatoes, and soon. Mr Trimble said Norfolk road people didn't like the classes enough for that. Mr Monkhouse wanted to know what became of the vegetables raised by the pupils. The Inspector said that in some cases the produce was sold, and the money credited to the account of the classes j in others, they were annexed. He repeated that it was the teacher's amlt .if the boys had to wheel manure, as reported by Mr Trimble.
