A HISTORY OF THE COLONY.
THE. PREMIER'S SUGGESTION. MB, PBEBS ASSOCIATION. Wellington, April 24. | Speaking at Masterton, the Premier expressed the opinion that means should be taken ere it was too late to acquire from old inhabitants of the colony records and experiences they had in their possession, for the purpose of writing in an interesting form the history ot the various districts. His idea was to send some one, paid by the btate, to the homes in which the old colonists lire, take down a record of their experiences and embody them in a history of the colony. The same system might, he added, be employed in questioning the old miners of the West Coast, so as to get the result of their early prospectings, and combine that local knowledge with scientific explorations now being carried out.
