SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.

The School Commissioners mot at New Plymouth ou Friday. Present: Messrs J. Wade (chairman), Faull, Simpson and Jennings, M. ll.il. An apology for absence was read from Mr C. E. Major, M.H.U, The Board's solicitor reported that the revised register of reserves would be ready by next meeting. Mr Jennings accordingly applied for, and was grankd leave to hold over his notice of motion till that date.

The Chairmaa reported that the Committeo had visited Eltham, and was now obtaining certain necessary information from Education Boards, with a view to enabling the Committees to consider the whole question of school sites. On the motion of Messrs Faull and Jennings, the Committee was given an extension of timo in which to report. The Valuer (Mr F. P. The Otago School Commissioners wrote with reference to proposed legislation, with the object of enabling Boards to sell lauds found to be unlettable.' It was resolyed, on the motion of Messrs Simpson and Jennings, That in accordance with the suggestion of the School Commissioners of the Otago Provincial district, the Minister of Education be urged to cause legislation to be enacted to enable the Commissioners to sell or exchapge any

sections which are not suitable for leasing, but so that the proceeds be applied in the purchase of lands to be vested in the Commissioners on the same trust .as those on which the lands sold were held.

Steps will be taken to recover payment from. \\\ Sharrock of rent and other moneys due by him, and to recover possession of lauds under lease to him at Stratford. Tin arbitrators between the Board aud Mr Chis. Bundle, reported that they had fixed the value of the improvements at £260, and the fair annual ground rent for the next "21 years at £l6 per annum. The Board's solicitor advised that Mr Bundle had elected not to take up the ucw lease. It will uow be necessary to have the lease offered by public auction, and steps will be taken accordingly. The Board's solicitor was empowered to have fixed the reduction of rent rendered desirable by part of Mr G. J. WiUy's leasehold having been taken by the Eltham Borough Council for drainage purposes, in respect of which the Beard has received £3OO (including the Board's costs). Messrs Carter and Shefiield will be allowed to surrender their leases, and new leases will be granted for the residues of the leases, both to contain provision for renewals.

The Secretary will deal with each lessee whose holdings have been unfairly commented upon by the Hoard's Hanger.

The Treasurer submitted a credit balance of £369 Ss 2A. Messrs. H. Brown & Co., Mrs Cocker, Mrs Webber, and Mr T. G. Hole were granted extension of time for the completion of improvements on reserve*. It was decided to hold next meeting on 18th May, instead of the llili.
