IMPERIAL POLITICS.

SPEECH BY THE PREMIER, | PREPAREDNESS OF THE NAVY. Received 10, 12.18 a.m. London, April 9. Sir H. Campbcll-Banneriuan, speaking at tlie Fishmonger's Society dinner, emphasised the Government's desire for conciliation and harmony in South Africa, justice and equality to all whites, and certainly to maintain British supremacy. He hoped the settlement at Algeciras would lead to a diminution of the frightful military burdens of the nations. Britain could set an example. •He urged Fiscal reformers to let the agitation rest awhile, in order to dimmish the prejudiced effects of uncertainty. Lord Tweedmouth said the Navy was never so well equipped, officered and manned, or so fit as it was now.
