A Proud Thief.
,Three suspected individuals wore recently arrested on the Boulevard Sebastopol, by the police itiul conducted to the commissariat ol the Saint Avaze quarter, says the I'arie "Figaro." One of them, Alfred Desoliy owing lo liia soubriquet of " the king oi thieves," was specially interrogated by the cummissaire himself, M. Niniand. The interrogation concluded, the magistrate went to his dinner, lint no soonei had lit arrived at his home limn he noticed that his watch and pocket-book has disappeared. lie returned quickly lo his oltisc, thinking he had left them on the table, but. he sought in vain. Just as he was abandoning his search, an inspector informed him that Dcsoby wished to see him to make to him a most important communication. That individual, on being introduced, said, smilingly : "Monsieur, permit mc lo restore (o you your watch and pocket-book. I look them in*order lo justify in your eyes my title of ' king of thieves.' I am at the bottom, as you see, more honest than you hud supposed."
