Patea acceptances close to-night at 8 o'clock. An error appears to have been made in allowing Maui to race this season in hack company. Judging by the rule relating to hack qualifications, the Mataki gelding should have been competing with racehorses. Mr Prosser's horses have been showing form recently. At Masterton four competed, three being successful. Also at the last Wellington meeting Boris, Ailsa, and Knrawaka, each scored a win. Ou the first day of the Masterton meeting, Capulet was sold for £IOO. He repaid the purchase money on the following day by winning the Autumn Handicap. Barea was allowed to pay a false price in the Farewell Handicap at Manawatu. It is difficult to understand how such a ronsistant performer should pay £7 9s iu a field of five. He was one of the least Backed horses in the rate, Chryseis bo ng t ie oulsider, irhilst Wi.akiwehi was m ide favourite. Dexti rity has recently changed hands, his new owner being Mr B. P. MacMahon, of Reefton. W. Davis appears to have a promising colt in Armamento (Lord ltoslynEscopeta). He won his race in good style on the second day at Manawatu, and is said to have been unlucky to have lost the first day. Gladsome is dreditel with having accomplished one of the greatest weight carrying achievements ever recorded iu a big handicap. When the weights in the Newcastle Cup were issued, very few people thought she would be a runner, but it was no doubt the inducement offered Mr Sol Green that led him to ask such a severe task of his favourite.
