THE CLASSIC BOAT RACE.
WON BY CAMBRIDGE. Received 8, 4.23 p.m. London, April 7. * Cambridge beat Oxford' University by four lengths. WON ALL THE WAY. Beceived 0, 12.17 a.m. London, April 8. Tho Spring-like weather attracted huge 'crowds to see the boat race. Light winds prevailed. Oxford won the toss'and ohose the Surrey side of the river. they started off at thirty seven strokes to the minute, Cambridge rowing thirty eight. Cambridge soon West to the front, and at Craven's Steps led by a length. Bowing with rare dash and admirable rythm, they had increased their advantage to two lengths and a-half at Hammersmith bridge, where the Oxford boat was rolling badly. The light blues continued to forge ahead, and at Barnes' Bridge were five lengths clear. From this out they had things all their own way, the race ending in a mere exercise paddle. Oxford made a plucky despairing spurt, but the crew were absolutely rowed out. Cambridge won by four lengths in nineteen minutes twenty foxr seconds.
