Owing to the very wintry weather no business was transacted at the llaymarket last Saturday. At the mart a fair quantity of poultry came forward and sold at very satisfactory prices. Hens made lid to Is 9d, cockerels Is 2d to 2s (id, pullets Is to Is od, Ir.onn Leghorn hens 2s Id to 2s 9d, geese as. *A quantity of furniture and sundries made usual rates.
Fruit.—Prices during the week were as follows: -Peaches Is to (is, plu.is 2s to 2s fid, pears 3s (id to as, tomatoes Is to (is fid, qu'nces 3s, apples Is to Is, oranges Os, grapes Id to Bid. Cuttle.—At Waiwakailio on Tuesday weauers made fis tid to 12s, 18mouth steers 335, 18 to 20-iuonth heifers in calf 33s to 38s (id, 1-yeiir fat bullocks £5 15s. store cows £1 to £2 os, fat do. £3 10a, bulls. £1 8s Od to £1 15s. *
At Stony River on Wednesday there was a good yarding and attendance. Weaners made 4s to 8s 6d, 2-year steers L2 7s fid, 3 to 3s-year do. L 3 10s, store cows los to 375, forward do, L2los to L2 12s, fat do., L 3 13s fid, store pigs 6s 6d to 10s 6d. N.Z. LOAN AND MERCANTILE AGENCY CO.'S REPORT.
Horses: On Friday, at the Durham yards, draughts spld at from £27 10s to £3B; medium, £lB 10s to £2O; hacks and light harness, £5 os to £18; a dogcart, £2l ; buggy, £32. Cattle : At the Newmarket yards, on Tuesday, dairy cows sold at from £5 2s Gd to £9 2s fid; empty cows, £llss to £3 8s; calves, 12s Od to £'l Is. Beef, of which there was an average muster, said at last week's rates, oxen selling up to 22s per 1001b, cow 17s to IDs. Steers sold at from £0 10s to £9 17s (ill; cows, £3 13s to £7 17s Od. Sheep: Wethers sold at from 10s to LI Is, ewes 15s fid to L]. Lambs, in full supply, sold well at from 12s Od to 18s ild. A truck of 69 lambs frou Waikato averaged 17s. Pigs: Porkers sold at from 19s to L2 Is, weaners 7s (id to 12s !)d. Hides: Market advanced. We quote: Prime ox, 9d to 9fd (one special ox made lOd); extra stout do. 8d to B£d; stout do. 7|d to 7,' d; medium do., CJd to 7d ; light do., ogd to fid; cow, best lines, afd to fijd, good aid tOD'id; stags', 3fd to 3i,'d ; kips, sid to ojd ; calfskins, (i|d to fi ,'d ; damaged hides, 3id to 4id. Sheepskins: Market firm. Best butchers' pelts and lambs' 3s fid to 3s lid, country do. 2s 9d to 3s 4<l. Tallow: Market firm. Best mixed 21si6dt(i 22s (id, good 20s to 20s fid, medium 18s fid to 19s 3d, seconds 17s 6d to 18s, rough fat lid to lid. Bones: Ll los. Cowlails : Is Cd dozen. Horsehair: Is tid to Is litja. Oats are firm at 2s 4!d ex-store. Chaff: Prime lines arc sellfcg at L 3 15s at the rail.
Potatoes : Prime lines were selling at LlO in the carlv part of the week, anil fair quality at L 9. Lines showing signs of decay were hard to quit, Market is easing. Butter: The demand is easing, and it is difficult to obtain the prices that have been ruling for some time ; that is, !><l for the best separator and Njd to for medium. There aro indications of n fall of at least id. Cheese: Prime separator is in good demand at siil to ofd, but farmers' make has a very small saie.
