THE YELLOW PERIL.
to Tin; HDiTOH. Sib,—The thanks of the thinking part of the community are due to you for your able leader on the Chinaman question. Wo in New Plymouth arc threatened with our full share of them. Within the last six months there have been three fruiterers' shops started, and I hear others are to open in a few days; also more laundry shops, and when 1 tell you that there are about thirty shops selling fruii without the Chinamen. I don't see the public require lliem. It is not that they sell any cheaper, as they don't. I know one urchardist in the town who sold prime dessert apples to a CliinainiiN at three-pence per lb., and the Celestial charged I lie public foul'-pence for them. If the public will Support the Chinaman fruiterer they will soon have the Chinaman tailor, cabinet-maker, bootmaker and others opening up. Then some of these people who thoughtlessly patronised tljc' Chinaman will be 'saying, "Where iyrc, they all coming from ?" We know there is plenty to come, if they can.makeit pay, and it rests now with the New I'ly.J moutli public |o say if they prefer Iheir l ! m|it and laundry work done by Chinese, who do nothing but save money with which to get back to China; or will lliey support those who support the town and tradesmen. Trusting to si'c others exjiress their approval of your out-spoken leader,—l tim, eta,, Ex-Fitun'unuii,
