NEW PLYMOUTH BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary mooting was held ou Monday. Present: His Worship the Mayor, and a full Council. muinAui;. Ratepayers near the corner of Devon and Liardet street, who had been given notice to connect with the borough sewer, wrote to tlr; effect that they had arnuged to lay a joint drain from their premises to Liardet street, but now found that they could not do so without pjyiu 0 ' wh it they considered ,in exorbitant fee of £3l to Mr Stan dish, owner of the right-of-way they proposed to use. Thoy asked the Council to lay the drain, as provided by Section lti9 of "The Municipal Corporations Act." On the motion of Cr3. Hutclien and Effing, steps will' be taken to have the drain laid accordingly. The Tar.inaki Hospital and Charitable Aid. Board wrote that ,the Council's contribution for the year would be L 334 19s 6d, payable in monthly sums of L 27 18s 4d.

SUPPLIES.' Tenders for supplies were accepted i M. Jones, gig hire, 7s per day, 6s halfday; F. Hosking, coal and firewood; Oils, etc., Bellringer'a estate, only tenderers, at prices slightly in advance of last year's rates; ironwork, shoeing, etc., J. A. Ooburn; general hardware, D. Borry and Co.

SANITATION. The Sanitary Inspector forwarded a report on the tenders received for rubbish and nightsoil removal for three years. Three were reoeived, and that of A. Nielson was accepted at Id for weekly and (id for fortnightly nightsoil service, and schedule rates for rubbish.

Cr. Brown . moved, aCcordiug to notice, that the sanitary arrangements ut the electric light distributing station be brought up-to-date. In the discussion which followed, several Councillors designated this an absolute waste of money. Cr. Coll is said that this was what ratepayers said when ordered to connect with the drainage system. Cr. Eiving pointed out that the reason why this place had net been connected with the sewer was because there was u possibility that the Council might have to shift the station at any time to some other site, as the street on which it stood might be wauted. The Mayor and Cr. Colli* were of opinion the Council could hardly compel private, owners to go to the expense of connecting with the sewer, when the Council itself allowed its owu buildings Lo remain unconnected.

The motion was carried, Cr. Ewing's dissent being recorded in the minutes.
