This afternoon the election of superintendants of departments was continued as follows: Bible-in-schools, Mrs Dewar, Auckland; Narcotics, Miss Webb, Ormondville j work among seamen, Mrs Whit, Lyttelton; Licensing, Mrs Hughes, Auckland; antigambling, Mrs McAlisler, Invercargill; Legal and Parliamentary, Mrs dheppard, Christehureh; Unfermentcd wine, Mrs Parkinson, Grcyntoulh. lte.solutious' were passed expressing thanks to Almighty God for the advance of the Colonial uo-lieense vote from 13,000 to 15,000, deploring the fact that so many good men and women voted for continuance of the drink traffic aud urging all branches to take up a pledge of taking the crusade among men and women, aud urging .women to sot character before politic iu the choice of candidates for public offices. The report of the Legal and Parliamentary department being read and adopted, the following resolutions
were passed: Aflirmiiig the economic equality of husband and wife, and the desirability of the legal recognition of the same, urging that scientific temper-' auco instruction be included in the examinations for teachers' certificates and mule a compulsory class subject in our schools; urging that all sex distinction enforced in the Factory Act be abolished, these being prcjudioal to the economic interest of women ; that parents should bo obliged to contribute to the support of the illegitimate children, and that failing the ability of
the pircnls the Statu should provide for such children ; Hut paternity being proved these children should bo registered in the name of ihe father, and possess an eijual status with those born in wedlock; that a woman should be appointed a public officer to discover the parentage of suel) children where possible, with a view to providing for their maintenance; allirming the principle of equal pay for equal work, both for men and women. The question of ihe W.O.TIT. exhibits at the International Exhibition to bo held in . C'hristchurch was discussed. It was decided to accept the invitation of Christohuivh for the convention to meet there in l!J()7,
