AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION.
l'lilt MESS ASSOCIATON. Auckland, March 21. At the Board of Education to-day it was reported that thirty-seven applications had been received for the position of instructor in Agricultural and Nature Study. Eight of the applicants were New Zealauders, oue was a Cauadiau and twenty-eight English, The candidate recommended by Mr George was the Canadian applicant, Mr Vincent W. Jackson, 8.A., who was appointed. Mr Jackson is the son of a farmer and was educated at Suiithsville High School and at Hamilton Model School aud Collegiate Institute. lie graduated as a teacher at the Ontario Normal School wuh special distinction in scionce, and graduated in manual training at MacDonald Institute. He had six years experience as a teacher in the public schools, whore ho gave great attention to school gardens and nature study. At the (Queen's University he took his BA. degree with firsl-elass honors in science, aud spent two summers in England to study English methods. ] At present he holds the position of • demonstrator in the department of | botany and geology at the Ontario | Agricultural College.! t
