On Monday next Mr Newton Kingwill hold an unreserved sale of furniture on premises at the corner of St. Aubyn and Dawson streets. Mr Henry James Little, licensee of the Okato itoiel, died suddenly at the hotel on Wednesday about midday. He was taken ill, and died iu an hour. ■ Deceased had been suffering for some time from heart disease, and had been under the treatment of Urs. Walker and lllackley. Mr Little was practically alone at the time, Mrs Little • being at Tariki nursing iter daughter who is ill, Mr Little was previously licensee of the Tariki Hotel, iu which place the family has many friends. He hailed from the Auckland district. On Saturday next Mr Newton King will sell by miction at his mart a splendid grazing farm of 1,210 acres I situated on the Mangamaelio Uoad, near Ureuui. This properly is reputed one of the best in the district, about #OO acres having been exceptionally • well laid down with the best English grasses. Samuel mentioned the defended divorce suit Eglinton v. Egliugfon, a husband's petition for divorce. Mr Samuel (with Mr lioy) appeared for the petitioner, and Mr Brookficld, x>f Auckland, on behalf of the respondent. Mr Samuel informed the Court that he was pleased to stale that the petitioner had discontinued the aclion, ami made overtures for a reconciliation, which he hoped would be eHeeled. That grapes cau be grown and ripened in the opeu air has been demonstrated by the Morshead Nursery Company. The manager (Mr Green) showed us ou Wednesday some samples of fruit grown in this way. It is a new kind, called " Albany Surprise." The vine is a dwarf, but the fruit is particularly good. Mr Green also showed us some splendid samples of dahlias.
In adjourning the Supreme Court for luncheon ou Wcduesday, His Honor said that from something that had come to his knowledge it appeared necessary for him to warn the jury that they must not discuss this case outside, or talk with any of the witnesses, or with persons representing the Crown. And representatives of the Crown had no business, either, to talk to members of the jury. He should have warned the jurymen before, but had not done so. It seemed necessary, however, Lo utter the warning now.
Members of the Star Football Club are reminded of the annual meeting to be held this evening in the Town Hall. The balance-sheet 'to be presented shows a very satisfactory state of affairs. There w ere 79 paid-up active members for the season, paying £9 17s (id, and tlie total amount of subscriptions was £lB 2s (id. Total receipts were £75. Assets are worth £l9 12s, and liabilities are only £5 9s, of which £5 5s is a promised donation to the Recreation Grounds Improvement Committer. The gates at the various matches produced revenue amounting to m Os, and the annual social resulted in a profit of £lB 10s, thus almost extinguishing the deficit of £l9 .on the annual sports meeting. The Club won no championships, and, dealing with this, the annual report urges members to get into condition earlier, as some of the first matches were lost last year from want of practise and condition.
