NATAL NATIVE RISING.
KIPPED 18 THE BUD. Received 16,4,45 p.m. Dobban, March 17. At Pietermaritzburg, Mr Watt, Minister of Defence in Natal, welcom. ing tho militia on their return, said the insurrection had been nipped in the bud. Several powerful tribes had planned a general rising, but the premature outbreak at Richmond enabled the Government to deal with the disaffection in detail. NATIVE LANDS CONFISCATION ENQUIRY TO BE HELD. London, March 16. Mr John Ward, Labour member, enquired in the House of Commons as to the confiscation of Kafßr tribes' land, also the allegation that arbitrary procedurewas moant to compel them to sell their labour cheap. Mr Winston Churchill promised an enquiry. He romindod Mr Ward that the situation iu Natal had not ceased to be ono of emergency to tho whole white population, and added that tho colony was in tho enjoyment of com. plete responsible self-government.
