The boy QuinUm, who murdered Mrs Gregory, tho wife of a Westralian hotclkcepcr under ferocious circum. stances in her room in a Sydney hotel, where he had heeu engaged as lift-boy, was sentenced to death, with a recommendation to mercy on account of his youth, Dr. Palmer stated that the woundi had been inflicted by one in a frenzied condition, rather than by one who do. sired to kill Quinlnu gave his evidence in an extraordinary calm manner. He told how he committed the murder, without being the least distressed. He said he had to pay for his broth, cr's keep, and clothe himself.
