The Auckland-Sail Francisco despatch of the 10th February arrived iu London on the 1:1 th inst.
A new regulation affecting postal carriers has been gaze l ted. In future a letter-carrier of the second grade must have served 10 years in the department or class before being eligible for promotion in the second class.
A Maori employed at a flaxmill near Kangiora, while placing the belt ou a moving pulley, last week, was caught by the shirt sleeves and thrown down. His right arm was much lacerated, and his legs aud body bruised.
Eleven pure-bred Angora goats have been liberated on Motuara Island, opposite Ship Cove, Queen Charlotte Sound, bv the Department of Agriculture, and with the previous Angoras liberated these will form the nucleus of the Government flock.

At the last meeting of the Egmoul County Council (Opiiuake), a reijuest was received from (he Taranaki Hospital Board, asking that contributions be forwarded to end of March. One of the Councillors said he understood that the Council would not be represented on tlve next Board, as the Taranaki County Council were going to have all ilicir ridings represented, in which case Egmont County, which was at present only represented on sufferance, would be cut off. The opinion was expressed that as the Egmont County is a contributing body, they had a right to representation, and the Government will probably be communicated with on the matter.

At a meeting of the New Plymouth Garrison Hand on Tuesday, Band Sergeant 11, Flail was presented with a silver hot water kettle and spirit lamp liy his fellow bandsmen on the occasion of his marriage. Altogether 13,1)72 bicycles were imported into New Zealand during 1905, the value being £81,830, while the imported material was valued as £'l2B,l>sS, the total in each case showing a large increase over that of any previous year.

At a meeting of the Opunake branch of the Farmers' Union it was resolved: " That in the opinion of this branch inoculation for the prcj vention of blackleg has done a considerable amount of good in this district." Several finds of moa bones and broken rnoa's eggs have been made on the Benmore Run (Woodsidc) recently by Mr Freoboru Parsons (says the " Kaikoura Star "). They are in such <1 uantity as to indicate that the moa must have existed there in considerable numbers.

It should lie hardly necessary to remind our readers of St. Joseph's euchre prrty to be held in the schoolroom this ivening. Those who remember the excellent manner in which like parties wore conducted duriug lad winter will not, need to be told that they are assured of a good evening's enjoyment. The management is offering first and second prizes for both ladies and gentlemen, dropping the " booby" system, which is incentive to bad "instead of good play.
The usual practice of the chorus for the Messiah " and " Elijah " concert on Good Friday night w.is very poorly attended on Wednesday evening. As there are only about three more practice nights available, the [committee is considering whether it will be possible to drop the idea for the present, which, in the face of the engagement of Mr Hamilton llodges, is a pity. We hope that in the next few days the local singers will signify their intention of seeing the thing through. The "Hawke's Bay Herald" points out that Lionel Terry's opinion that a lethal chamber for those who are no longer of any use in the world, hits been held by many famous men.
