GAS v. ELECTRICITIY.

TO TIIK EDITOR. Silt,—Mr Shuttleworth doubts the accuracy of the pai agrnph with reference to my gas account for the month of January. lam much surprised at this, for surely, as ohairman of the Gas Company, he would be able to see what I paid. If there is an overcharge of Is lid, as his letter infers, I shall have to request a rofund for that amount. 'l'he plain facts are that on Jauuary 17th, and following days, the electric light was being installed on my premises. On Saturday, January 27th (the fourth Saturday), the light was turned on, and from that date no gas has been burned. After three Saturdays of electric light, I had the meter examined, aud it showed a consumption of five units, which, at (id a unit, costs 2s (id. Now, Sir, how does this comparison staud ? The reading of tho meter on March Ist showed a consumption of nine uuits. This was for a period covering five Saturdays, from Jauuary 27th to February 2ith inclusive, and my bill for the same was 4s (id. That compares at live weeks' electric light for the same price as three weeks' gas. lie the gas fittings, Mr Shuttleworth is wrong again, anil I should recommend him to get his information from headquarters before he takes hearsay evidence.—l am, elc.. J. W. WIOTAKUU.
