CYCLING ACCIDENT.

A number oi people ran to his assistance. ami found him in a stale of nerve tremor. giiing the impression lhal Ilis neck was broken, lie was carried at once lo Mr Hall's chemist's shop close by, and Drs. Walker and Home sent for. The former was lirsl on Ihe scene by a few minules, and loimd that ]\lr ,Slokes had sustained a serious fraciuiv of the fossae al the back ol the skull, bleeding profusely. He was unconscious when he was removed lo the hospilal. Owing to his serious condition, his relatives at I'onsonby. Auckland, were communicated with. In view of the violence of the concussion, and the extensive and excessive loss of blood from the head injury, it is a marvel that the patient is si ill alive, this being due to his wonderful constitution, .lust before ten o'clock last night, Mr ISlokes' condition was reported "as favorable as it was possible for it to be."
