PKB MESS ASSOCIATION A . ,i March 8. At tho police court to-day Essie D. Lcaeh was charged with having ill.' ' treated and neglected a child. Accused >»a married woman with ono child. She adopted the subject of tho charge from the Salvation Ariuy Home, and received a premium. The evidence showed the child had lost weight and had bruises about the body and faoe. Neighbors heard it orymg, the child presented the appearance ot being neglected. lhe woman, in her evidence, saidt her husband had been cruel to herand she had to leuve home twice. She' denied neglect or ill-treatment, and ! could only account for the bruises by her own child striking the other. Mr*Kanlon fur the defence, raised' the point that the husband was ens-/ todian of the child and not the woman. There was uo evideuce 0 f wilful neglect or ill-treatment. Mr Grahaui, S.M., reserved his decision.
