BEWLEV AXI) GRIFFITHS' DAIRY REPORT, JJMessrs Bt'wlcy ••■ind Griffiths, dairy produce exporters, Now Plymoutli, are ill receipt of. the following market report from their London principals. Messrs Mills and Sparrow, dated 2(ith .January, 1 !)ui>: — Butter: The severe drop in the market last week has hud the elfei'l of stimulating business on all deseriji, lions at the lower range of prices now ruling. Arrivals of Colonial butter during the past eight days have been heavy, comprising Warrigal "2:1115 boxes, Suevic 23211, Macedonia 22328, Gothic 51.000, and as this quantity shows a big excess over the previous arrivals this season, buyers naturally avail themselves of every opportunity of holding off as long as possible so as to let thp market sag iway to its fullest possible extent, I'ricos for the various description* have settled down as under, and at the close there is a steady feeling, which we hope will he maintained, so that no further drop will be recorded. Danish: There is no change in Copenhagen quotation, ar.c| although the demand ill Denmark was not quite so good as was expected, still it showed considerable improvement, whilst prices iu the Midlands and North for Danish butter showed an improvement over previous week.' French : There is no change in this lescriptiou, prices remaining steady, the quantities available being Itini'cd.

Russian : Several parcels arriving recently have been pour in quality, no loubt owing to their having been dcI lyed in transit, through interior troubles in l'ussia, As the Colonial butters have declined, so the demand for Russian has fallen oil', and prices are considerably easier. American: There has been a heavy import ibis week ol creameries and dairy I,utters These have conic ill very liandy lor the cheaper class trader, who is most anxious to maintain an lid, and is per lb retail counter butter, and although the quality in a great man v iustancc* is poor, still the shortness of supplies in other description* ivaihible for this outlet, forces buyers on to the American ai'liclcs. Australian : After a slow week last week, there bus been considerable improvement in the demand, and at the close prices are steady. Quite a few butters from N.S.W. are shewing signs of lieal, and flavour generally is not as good as previous p n'ceis. The same remark applies to Qiicenland, a large number of the factories being quite dull and stale in flavour, no doubt through heat trouble during the transit of the cream. Undergrade* of Australian arc meeting with a steady sale at lots to IOSs. [ Unsalted butler has decreased iu quantity very materially, so that this description looks like making 2s more than sailed next week. New Zealand : The large arrival per " Gothic " is just landing, and the goods are going out freely at the undermentioned prices. We have found several cases of New Zealand butter being short weight recently, and we should like the factories to pay a little more attention to this department. A loss in weight is usually unsatisfactory to all concerned. Cheese: Demand has been very quiet indeed throughout the week, and prieis have eased off in order to encourage business. Prices may be quoted fully Is lower than last week. i;i'otatio.\s.
