THE CASE OF MALOUF. Received 5, 11.12 p.m. Svbnkv, March 5. The case of Malouf, charged with not having left Australia nt the expiry of his certificate of exemption L a prohibited iiumigraut, came before the Police Court. Evidence was given by Customs oilii'iais of the issue aiJ( l «übMC(jm»ut renewals of a certificate of exemption, "Well was signed by the Acting. Collector of Customs. Counsel for tho defence submitted «> test had been applied to Malouf, He never was a proliibited "■migrant, so that tho certificate of oniption should not have been given Llm - 1 110 than Lte paper, because it had not been s i gnod by a Minister of the Crown or a duly authonsed officer. The Magistrate adjourned tho case till Friday, i„ ordcr to examine the points raised.
