SHOOTING.

THE TKE>'THAM MEETING, Tiu;.vrji.ui, March 5, I lit' ltilli! Association meeting opened (liis morning in fine weather, with a light variable wind, varying from nortlF-east to south- west, but there is every probability of it increasing during the afternoon. Colonel Collins is in command, with M-ijor 11 uglies and a large nnniber of stall' ollieei's assisting. Colonel Collins in welcoming a ivcord attendance, referred brielly to the great improvements on the range, including long range distances. Already the Government has spent C 1,200, and the total cost Mould be about £2,000, which would mulct it one of the finest ranges south of the line. Colonel Collins states that though the present intention of the Government is not to send ;i team lo Bisley this year, if, however, there ivus any phenomenal shooting which would justily him in recommending the Government to send a team, it might be influenced lo do so. Owing to the New Zealand Exhibition Commissioners being unable to offer a suitable range for next meeting, to have been held at Christchurcli during the Exhibition, Colonel Collins has suggested to the Government that the meeting be held here next year, to be a Federal one, with largely increased prize-money, in order to attract competitors and teams from the Commonwealth*
