l'Elt CHESS ASSOCIATION. Wei.uxhtun, March 1. On the night of Sunday, "2Uth o [ April, the census of New Zealand will be taken. The last census was taken on 31st March 11101, when the population of the colony was found to be 772,711) exclusive of 13,113 Maoris, and the population of Cook Islands 12,21)2. It is estimated by the Hegisler-Geueral (Mr 15. J. You-Dadolszcn) that Iho population of New Zealand Ims increased by 11(1,000 during the past live years. Perhaps the most phenomenal increase has taken place in the North Island, where the- population has increased very rapidly in recent years.
