ANNUAL STATEMENT. Tho President, Mr Newton King reported ■.—" Referring to the statement of accounts, the Society has again to report a general increase in all figures on last year. As you arc all aware, .the Society last year decided to hold a two days show in December last, with a result that a record show was attained, both with number and excellence of entries, and attendance of the public. The first day was spoiled, owing lo the wretched weather which was experienced, thereby considerably curtailing the receipts. During the hist 18 months, (he Society has expended. £275 in erecting new pens and layin" down a new ring in front of the Jockey Club's grandstand on the rnccoo.v.sc. These facts, together with the Society having bad to engage an urusjal amount of labour during the last year, has left us with a debit balance at the bank of £25413s 2d—our only liability. As against this, there are assets of £1721 Os Bd. The following figures show the principal increase in receipts for the 12 months:—Total receipts £7OO, increase £110; members paid £215, increase £l(i; entrance fees £203, increase, £l3; gates £l3l, increase, £'3B. The Society's membership has increased considerably since last year, and now stands at about 300. The public in both town and country are now taking a much keener interest in the welfare of the Society, and next year should again show a marked increase. The new ring which was laid down during the year was a great improvement on the old ground, tbe public being now able to utilise the grandstand, which proved a big draw during the progress of the events. The thanks of the Society are due to the Taranaki Jockey Club for their liberal treatment in allowing the Society free access to their grounds and stands for two years. The Club has also treated the Society very liberally with regard to any other matters on which we have* been compelled to approach them from time to time." Mr King pointed out that much of the expenditure was. nonrecurring. Members were now coming iu voluntarily and in large numbers. The improvement was due to the fact that the Committee had recognised that close attention to the show details wus essential.

The Chairman nominated Mr Okcy as President, pointing out that he was fully qualified, but Mr Okcy declined, moving Mr King's re-election.
