A DIFFICULT CASE.
ATTEMPTED SHOOTING OF A BROTHER. l'Eli PRESS ASSOC!ITIOX, Auckland, February 2(i. James Melvin MacKcnzic, an eldcrly man, pleaded guilty to having attempted to shoot lus brother at Auckland. The case had been adjourned for a fortnight to give Mackenzie an opportunity of calling witnesses to prove mitigating circumstances. Prisoner called John Snaik, hi.; broiher-in-law. Witness said accused had been a very respectable man. lie thought it was a case tor mental treatment. His Honor said that apparently prisoner's mind was unhinged, and he really did not think he ought to be sentenced a» a. criminal. He would discharge him unhesitatingly, if lie thought it was sale, but lie did think jsio. lis remanded MacKenzie until [Friday to s«e «'l|.at could be done.
