Onehitnga, Feb. 2(1: Barawa, for New Plymouth, 1.10 p.m. Wellington, Feb. 20: The New Zealand Skipping Company lias a Idressed a letter to the Harbor Board, stating that as the latter appear to be under an impression that Wellington is the cheapest port in the colony for shipping, they desire to remove that impression from their mind by giving a statement of the changes payable for the .Sftme services and same amount- of cargo on the present voyage of the Turakiua and Kaipara. These are given as: Turakina, Wellington, £331 ; Auckland, £209; Lyttelton, C 218; Bunedin, £2lO. The excess here is apparently accounted for by the liarbor improvement rate being a charge against tlic ships instead of the goods as elsewhere, and because at other ports tlic charges for a second visit on the same voyage are reduced. Other points of difference arc mentioned which tell against Wellington and a table is attached showing that the percentage of harbor revenue contributed by ships is only 3.8 at Sydney and Melbourne, whereas it runs to 50.5 in Wellington.
