The annual concert and gil'l auction took place on Monday evening and was very successful from every point of view, although the programme, excellent though it was, exceeded the time limit usually imposed on such occasions. The programme was contributed to by Mesdanies Wright, Knights and Haw, Misses Cassie (2), Messrs Raw, Larking, King, I/. Hell and Knight. The Duckcr instrumental trios were much enjoyed, and the accompanists'were Mesdamcs Ifaw and Duckcr, and Misses Francis, Larking and Doughterty. Mr W. Revell, in the absence of Rev. Mr I'oting, occupied the chair. Comparisons in entertainments of this kind are always more or less invidious, but it must be admitted that tho Ncwall Road contingent crowded as much solid enjoyment into their items as the appreciative audience could wish for, perhaps the most enjoyable being their praiseworthy efforts at concerted music, vocal and instilmental. Mention ought also to be made of the elocutionary items of Mrs Knight and Messrs Raw aud Bell. The linancial result of £(> 5s was due to a large extent to Mr E. Larking who acted as auctioneer of the gifts displayed. • Cricket is apparently not yet dead on the coast, as a Warca team has arranged a match with ,Okato at the latter place on Saturday, 2<llh inst, with'a view of selecting a combined team to visit New Plymouth, to play a match with one of Ihe city teams. The articles, editorial and otherwise, in the " Daily New," on that much vexed question, inoculation for blackleg, are causing much interest here, and it is hoped that investigations may be persevered with in order that tlie blame may be placed on the right shoulders. . The approaching departure of Rev. Father Schacffer for Otaki, is much regretted by the members of his Hock in this part of the parish. His place is to be taken by Rev. Father Uarra who 's unfortunate in following so closely such a popular priest as the former proved to be during his short residence in the. district. However it is a ease Welcome the coming, speed the parting guest,"
