TO-DAY'S FESTIVITIES.

lhcrc should be a very large attendance at the Recreation Grounds this afternoon, notwithstanding that the proceedings will not be honoured by gubernatorial patronage. Excellent arrangements have been made by the Committee, and the details of the many items on the leugthy programme have been carefully attended to. The fancv dress and poster march, and exhibitions by tile "larauaki Riiles will occupy the earlier portion of proceedings in the grounds, subsequent to the procession, particulars of which have already appeared. The Swimming Mparts, in which a number of novelties will be introduced, should be one of the most enjoyable events of the day. Afternoon ten, lolly and jumble booths and stalls arc already erected and stocked. retailed wholesale, .should have considerable patronage. The triumphal arch, surmounted by a splendid Coat of Arms, which lias been erected at the main entrance, is one of the most attractive and comprehensive yet attempted here, and of itself should be a considerable draw. In the evening a euchre party will be held in one of the largo marquees on the grouud, supper being provided. As previously stated the programme will be carried out in its entirety, and as the committee have gone to a very considerable expense, we expect that the people of tho town' will show their appreciation by unstinted patronage. Certainly no better afternoon's amusement has been provided in New- Plymouth for a very considerable time.
