Oneliunga, Feb. 20: Rarawa, for Neiv Plymouth, 1.10 p.m. Wellington, Feb. 20: The New Zealand Shipping Company has addressed a letter to the Harbor Board, stating that as the latter appear to be under an impression that Wellington is the cheapest port in the colony for shipping, they desire to remove that impression from their mind bv giving a statement of the charges payable for the same services and same amount of cargo on the present voyage of the Turakina and Kaipnra. These are given as: Turakina, Wellington, £'33l; Auckland, £209; Lytlelton, £218; Dunedin, £240. The excess here is apparently accounted for by the harbor improvement rate being a charge against the ships instead of the goods "as elsewhere, and because at other ports the charges for a second visit on the same voyage are reduced. Other points of difference are mentioned which tell agaiust Wellington and a table is attached showing that the percentage of harbor revenue contributed by ships is only 3.8 at Sydney and Melbourne, whereas it runs to 0n..3 in Wellington.
