ALLEGED LOCK-OUT.
THE TAILORESSES' TROUBLE. PKH PitESS ASSOCIATION. Dunedin, February 15. In response to resolutions of the Trades and Labor Council, the Labor Department is now inquiring into tlic alleged lock-out of tailoresses in connection wit li the new award. The employers contend that if there is a lock, out, it is on the part of the tailoresses who decline to apply for underrate permits, as provided in the award. About 88 girls have been informed by their employers that it would bo uecossary for them to obtain permits. Of thi g number 51 applied for and were granted pcrmils, and all, with the exception of ten, were rc-iugaged at moderate wages. Of the remaining 'l7. about a dozen have intimated they arc prepared to accept employment offered in the north.
