ENTERTAINMENTS.

CZKKNY AT THE THKATKIC KOTAL. One of tin- largest audiences that the theatre has lieon called upon to accomodate for .some time, greeted tinopening performance of Czerny, aptly described as the Prince of Prestidigilateurs, and his company of trained illusionists, on tuedsay evening, The stage littiugs and scenery were typically Egyptian, and mystic. Czerny was greeted with a round of applause, and immediately commenced his series of wonderful and mystifying feat. Borrowing a handkerchief he proceeded to tear what appeared to be that article into shreds, which lie handed to a boy. Presently he took thorn away again in the form of a long strip, which was placed in the muzzle of a blunderbuss, and the magic weapon was fired at a black box hanging above the proscenium. The box obediently opened and roloased a coloured parachute, which conveyed a tiny casket down to the conjurer, who produced the unharmed handkerchief from the casket. Czerny proceeded to perform various and wonderful feats, always leaviug the audience more puzzled than ever, all the time keeping up a running fire of humorous comment. Several of the audience were next served with coffee from goblets, thai but a few seconds before were apparently tilled with paper shavings. The illusion, the suspension of a youug girl in mid-air. though not new, was us mystifying as ever. The foregoing arc but a tithe of the clever und mysterious illusions and tricks with which the magician mystified his audience, A pretty tableau, a dainty Japanese dance by Misses Topping and Synnott, and a number of animated pictures were additional items in a programme that fur exceeded expectations, and should attract another full house 10-nigbt.
