The Mayor of Christchurch received to-day a reply from Sir Josoph Ward to his letter, asking for the clemency of the Government in connection with the dismissal of the postal oflieials, as the outcome of the voucher affair. The Minister states that the case of the officials has been most carefully reconsidered by Cabinet, but after re, viewing the whole matter and the circumstances surrounding it, it was de, ruled that the decision already arrived at was to be upheld.
