Mr Colvin quoted the Board's engineer, who is of high .standing, as stating recently before the Right Hon. the Premier, thai within (he next two or three years the port of Westport would he able to deal with bottoms currying 80INI i olls u f ,. 0; , l, and very *iim n permanent deplji would bo established of 2(1 feet on the bar, and in the river, thus allowing vessels of 21 feel draught to work Westport with absolute safely. Mr Colvin also refurred to (he spleudid liuimcial condition of the Westport Harbor Board, and said that all future improvements could be doue by that body without borrowing one single penny, thus showing the highly productive nature of the harbor works already constructed*.
