A PECULIAR RECOVERY OF PLAN S. Received 8, 12.2 a.m. Sydnkv, February 7. Mr Ewiug, vice-President of the Executive Couucii, who attends to nutters appertaining to defence, was asked to-day whether lie had any official knowledge of the seizure of plans of tkc Sydney harbor fortifications, which had been found in the possession of two foreigners at Thursday Island. Mr Ewing stated that he had not yet

received official infounation, though he would not say it was not knowu to him.

According to information received by a prominent citizen in Sydney from Thursday Island, a rather startling discovery was made by officials there in quite an accidental way. On the last trip of the steamer Australian, two Japanese passengers, who, passed as merchants, were missed from the boat when it resumed its voyage their luggage being left aboard. They wired to have the luggage put ashore at Port Darwin, and they would follow by next boat. The luggage, however, was put ashore at Guode Island, where the Customs officials discovered amongst the soculled merchants' effects, complete plans of the Sydney liirbjr and fortifications.
