A large meeting wits held List cvening to urge upon the Government the desirability of making 11 harbour at Point Elizabfl.il. After the matter had been thoroughly gone into, the follow, ing resolution was passed Seeing that the present shippiug ports of the West Coast appear to have reached their maximum development, anil are quite inadequate to cope with oeeail going steamers, to the great detriment of the coast and the colony at large, and in order to fully develop the export trade of the .State eoal mine at llunanga, the vast coal areas on th Paparoa Ranges, timber and other pro. ducts, this public meeting, representing the unanimous and hearty opinion of the people of Groyniouth, respectfully urges 011 the Government the great desirability of having the necessary snrvoys made, and expert opinion obtained (by the British Admiralty if possible) as to the cost efficiently and utility for naval and other purposes of a harbor at Point Elizabeth, as suggested by the Night Hon. the Premier on his recent visit to the West Coast; and that a eopv of the foregoing lie forwarded to the Premier and Minister of Marine.
