The Defence Department lias been informed of the arrangement made by llie War Office with the Japgueso Government, under which four British officers will be selected annually for two years' study ttn d residence in Japan. When the officer, have been four months in the country they will be required to pass a colloquial test in the language. The second examination will be oral and written, aud will'bo held when the year has been spent. During their second year's stay the officers will be under orders of the military attache at Tokio, to whom they will have to send diaries regarding their progress every month.
