To-day, Mr lilooniliekl, referring lo the legacy, said thai probably benevolently disposed persons in Auckland did not fully realise the painful position of persons suilering from phlisis. llie chairman ol the Board said he bad and would continue to have considerable dillieully in dealing with such cases, Mr Bloomfiehl had drawn attention to the matter with some concern, tor he (the speaker) had been assured by Dr. Valintiuo that the number of consumptives among the working classes in New Zealand wus one in five—a terrible proportion. He had hoped that Auckland would have been independent of outside help in this matter, but in view of the large expenditure which would have to be incurred on the hospital and for other purposes the position now required further consideration.
