CHINESE ASSAULT CASE.
AWAITING ; TRIAL. l'Hlt MESS ASSOCIATION. Gisuounk, February 2. The police are awaiting the arrival of a Chinese interpreter from Wellington, before proceeding with the charge against four men for an alleged day. light robbery of Chinamen. One of the men, Andrew McKcown (who lias been four times convieted in Auckland) was to-day sentenced to three mouths for stealing the. hat ho was wearing at tho time of the robbery. The hat, a Panama, valued at £2 2s, had, at a social, been given to a boy to mind. The boy put it in his pocket. Accused sat beside him at supper, mid on going out the boy missed the hat, which was not, found until McKcown was arrested on the other charge.
