ANOTHER RAILWAY ACCIDENT.
TRAIN DERAILED AT WAXGAEIir. DISQUIETING IfEPOIM'S. DETAILS M HAGUE. I'mill meagre information In li:m<l we ieitrii thai on Friday I'oivi'ivu a goods train was ilerailcil livm Wangiu'hu, a II ig station mi the iiniu line between Turakiua and For Jell, south of Watiganui. It is stated that lite circumstances causing the derailment were almost identical with those under which an excursion train left the rails at Momoliaki last week. We have been unable lo ascertain the extent of the damage sustained bv the goods train, but it was evidently sufficient to block the line and dislocate traffic for some considerable time at least. The mail trains were unable to through, and the passengers and mails were accordingly transferred from the downward to the upward mail and from the New Plymouth to the Wellington express, each then returning to Wellington and New Plymouth respectively. Considerable time was lost in the course of transhipping, and the mail train did not arrive here till half past nine at night, an hour an-a half late. If there has been foul play, the intelligence will have a most disquieting effect on the public, and the police and railway officials should make strenuous efforts to get to the bottom of the mystery. If, however, the derailment was the result of an accident, then, : while perhaps a little more re-assuring, the incident, with tliat of Momahaki, i forms one of the most remarkable coiu- : cidcnccs in the history of the New i Zealand railways.
