THE LIBERALS' PROGRAMME

HOW THE MAJORITY WILL BE USED. Received 29, 9,30 p.m. London, January 29. The Hon. Sydney C. Buxtun, Post-master-General, speaking at London, ■aid it was not difficult to say what the Government would do with their majority in tlic immediate future. They intended to put elementary education on a National basis and to deal with the Trade Union funds. They desired later to deal with the many social and labor questions before them on a substantial and radical basis but must beware of the danger of ship--wreck on the rock whereon they were previously wrecked; namely, trying 1° run too ninny horses abreast. There must be give and take, but in view of the Government's large majority the House of Lords was less likely thau formerly to reject or mutilate measures. It might be anticipated that Bills carried in the House of Commons would have some way or other, to receive the assent of the Lords. STATE OF THE PAIITIESReceived 30, 12.28 n.m. London, Januiiry 29 The slate of the parties now is: — Liberals 375 Unionists ... ... 152 Nationalists ... ... 83 Labor 51 Liberal majority, 89.
