THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE. I'EB MESS ASSOCIATION Nelson, January 29. The Fire Brigades' Conference is sitting. Captain Twomcy, Lyttcllon, is presiding. Regret was expressed that the Fire Brigades Bill was not yd on llie Statute Book, a result ehietly due to the apathy of the brigades. More determined efforts are to he made this year. .Nelson, January 29. | The twenty-seventh conference of J the Fire Brigades' Association has commenced. About one hundred delegates are present. The Executive's report showed a balance of assets over liabilities of XlloS 12s 3d. Disappointment was expressed as to the shelving °i the Fire Brigades Bill.
The delegates were welcomed by the Mayor and the Member for Nelson. In the Association competition, only the conditions of rule twelve were altered, making provision for protests. It was resolved to set up a special committee to select events to count tor high pressure and manual events. A banquet is being held to-uight.
