GENERAL SLOCUM DISASTER. j New Yoiik, January 28. Ilan Schauk, captain of the excursion steamer General Slocuni, which was burned on June loth, 1901, with great loss of life, was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment for not having held lire drills aboard.
AQUATICS. Sydnky, January 29. Ail the yachts in the race—Magic, Cooya, Flcetwiug Zealauder, and Rawhiti—are on the scratch limit. The | Magic sailed splendidly, and over the lirst portion of the course easily maintained an advantage from the Rawhiti, which certainly did not sail up to expectations. On the run home the Magic retained the leading position, the Rawhiti finishing sixth. [The Rawhiti was built in Auckland.]

Dr. Ford Robertson, of Edinburgh, Morison lecturer, claims to have discovered the bacillus of general paralysis of the iusiuie.
