Tlie whole district between Corowa and Culeairn lias been swept by a busk (ire, which is supposed to have originated in a spark from a pipe or a match thrown down by a farm employee.
The lire, under the iiitlueneu of a blistering hot wind, spread with marvellous rapidity. At one point the llames beat the mail train,
Fortunately most of the wheat had been harvested, but the damage to stock, crops aud grass is heavy. Wool sheds, machinery and buildings were swept away, and a great many small fanners burnt out, while at Brae Springs station two thousand sheep perished. At Gorogery West station, ten thousand acres were swept aud twelve hundred sheep burnt. The fire was subdued at Culcaini.
