WORKS COMMITTEE MEETING. The Borough Council Works Committee meeting on Thursday night wis attended by llio Mayor (Mr Ji. Cock). Crs. Browne, Brooking, Kwing, Colli.*, Mouteiilli, Hulchcu and Wilson. The Commitli'i' recommended Ihal the General Inspector be instructed to take action against the owner of a horse impounded on (lie Carringlonroad. Crs. Brooking and Wilson lie ap|)ointed to sign the lease of Mr Downs lo the Council, of the West End Fire Station. lII'IUHXO lIY-I.AWS. II was resolved thai Mr Messenger he informed thai the external walls of the buildings to be creeled for Messrs Ual.es and McCaskill niusl lie of brick excepting the rear wall of Ihc store, and the front wall of the stables. The Council cannot see its way lo accede to the request of the Wcstport Coal Co. to dispense with brick walls in connection with the building proposed to be erected by thein. 01iXEll.lL. W. Harvey's request for repairs in Leach-street was referred to the Borough Engineer to deal with. Mrs .Stanley's application for refund of water rate was referred to the Town Clerk io report upon. The Committee recommended that Messrs Sole Bros, request for permission to erect boiling-down works be acceded io subject to conditions to be drawn up and submitted to the Council by Jfis Worship (he Mayor, and Crs. Monteath, Colli* and Wilson. The following payments were recommended lo be paid :—Boon Bros, (progress), ,£!>! is; Xixon and Newton (final), l".l!l ; Magee and Jenkins (final), Milt 2s; Brush Co. (progress), t'oCS.
